MK Dons have signed Ryan Barnett from Wrexham today, following a setback in defender Kane Wilson’s comeback. Head coach Paul Warne said Barnett’s athleticism and crossing ability will help cover for the injured wing-back.
New signing
The club completed the transfer of Barnett, a former Wrexham wing-back, after the 26-year-old Kane Wilson suffered another injury setback. Wilson, who joined MK Dons from Derby County last August, has only played one match for the club due to a series of knee injuries that have required at least two operations.
Wilson’s injury woes
Wilson was expected to return to training in the next few weeks, but his recovery hit a new stumbling block. The 26-year-old’s knee problems have forced him under the knife on at least twice, and Warne admitted that Wilson will not be available for a few more weeks.

"Kane has had a little bit of a set-back with his comeback again, so we won’t be seeing him for another few weeks," Warne said after signing Barnett. He praised Barnett as “one of the best attacking wing-backs in the division” and highlighted his athleticism and ability to cross.
Warne added that Barnett fits the mould of a wing-back that can operate in both the box and the back, and that he wants to cross the ball and run on the outside. "He’s a good kid, I got some really good recommendations off team-mates of his, so it was a very easy deal to get done," Warne said.

Barnett helped Wrexham secure a third promotion in as many years to reach the Championship. He is known for his high-energy play, engine, and balanced character. Warne said Barnett’s crossing has already produced goals for the club, and that he is a perfect fit for the strikers.
"I love football to be high-energy, for balls to get into the box and for the opposition to defend," Warne said. "Ryan feels like a perfect fit. He’s got an engine, he can get up and down and he has a good ‘niceness’ about him, he’s a really well balanced individual. He’s humble and just wants to play football."
