Milton Keynes Dons could cross paths with their former manager Russell Martin if Leicester City appoint him as their new manager. Martin is set to lead the Foxes in League One next season. The former Norwich City defender spent ten months as a player at Stadium MK in 2019, helping the club out of League Two via automatic promotion under Paul Tisdale. Martin would then take over at the helm at MK1 following Tisdale's sacking, leading the side through the Covid-hit 2020/21 season to a disappointing 13th place finish, but one which laid the groundwork for the third place finish which would follow under Liam Manning the following season. The Scot's departure for Swansea City on the eve of the 21/22 season left a bitter taste in the mouths of Dons fans and he remains a divisive character amongst Dons supporters. Following his time in Wales, Martin guided Southampton back to the Premier League but left with the Saints rock bottom of the top flight, before an ill-fated spell at Rangers has seen him out of the game since last December. A miserable season at the King Power Stadium saw Leicester suffer consecutive relegations, dropping into League One for the first time since 2010/11, a decade on from their stunning Premier League triumph. Gary Rowett took over at the helm in February with the side already struggling at the wrong end of the Championship, with their challenge for survival taking another hit courtesy of a six-point penalty for a breach of profit and sustainability rules. Should Martin take up the reins at Leicester, it would be the first time he has faced former club Dons since his departure.
