Milton Keynes Dons have called back midfielder Keon Lewis-Burgess from his loan with Gateshead. The player, who is 19, has returned ahead of schedule because of what his parent club termed "the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the National League club".

Lewis-Burgess moved to Gateshead on a temporary deal in August, which was originally set to conclude in January. During his time there, he played in 11 league matches for the team. The decision to recall him was prompted by considerable turmoil at Gateshead, such as missed salary payments for the squad and employees in September and the recent sacking of head coach Lee Cattermole. Gateshead had managed only a single victory in their first 12 league fixtures and occupied last place in the National League standings.

Lewis-Burgess' return

The midfielder is now an option for MK Dons as they seek to move up in the League One table. Lewis-Burgess, who first played for the Dons' senior side at age 17, has six previous appearances for the club in the EFL Trophy.

Mike Williamson's team has not lost in their previous five outings in all tournaments, a sequence featuring three victories and two ties. Bringing the player back offers quick additions to the squad as the Dons try to continue their better recent performances. Lewis-Burgess is likely to train with the main group this week.
